To provide a photocatalyst-containing coating composition which contains a binder harmless to a human body; and a method for deodorizing by decomposing harmful components by causing a highly adsorptive substance to adsorb the composition.

This coating composition contains a natural glutinizer selected from among starches, cereals, tubers, proteins, water-soluble celluloses, mannan, sodium alginate, gum arabic, and rubbers or prepared by processing these substances, a substance having a photocatalytic activity, and water. In the air-cleaning method, several tens of pieces of photocatalytic active paper prepared by coating the front and rear sides of cardboard having a thickness of at least 1.5 mm with a photocatalytic active substance are collected so that air can pass through between the collected pieces of the photocatalytically active paper; and air is caused to pass through between the collected pieces of the photocatalytic active paper in the presence of ultraviolet rays or a fluorescent light to decompose and remove harmful components from the air.
