A support device (52, 100, 120, 130, 140, 170) has an inflatable element (76, 102, 122, 132, 142, 160, 172) arranged on the upper face (34) of a table (30), on which a patient (32) can be placed. The table is a part of a bore of a medical imaging machine (20) and movable into and out of the bore. The inflatable element has one or more fluid fillable cells (78, 106, 108, 124, 134, 136, 138, 144, 162, 176, 80, 146) selectively inflatable and deflatable, and can alter the position of a patent relative to the upper face of the table. The support device can be employed in a system (50) having a control apparatus (54) coupled to the support device and operable to inflate and deflate the inflatable element to alter the position of a patient supported by the table.
