To provide an information exchange system capable of exchanging information between a machine tool and a transfer device without difficulty, upgrading the machine tool by the transfer device without a special effort, and starting the transfer device as easily as possible even when upgrading the machine tool.
In this information exchange system, a control unit 3 of a machine tool 1 monitors a processing status of the machine tool 1, and controls it. Information regarding the processing status of the machine tool 1 is sent to the transfer device 11 via an interface 4 of the machine tool, so as to actuate the transfer device 11. The transfer device 11 receives the information via the interface 14, processes the information by the control unit 13, and responds to the information. A printer interface is used as the interface 4 of the machine tool 1.
