PURPOSE: To easily obtain current place information by using a data-base(DB) outside a vehicle by setting and sending retrieval conditions on the basis of a current place and receiving the current place information regarding the current place from the DB outside the vehicle.
CONSTITUTION: A GPS antenna 1 and a GPS receiver 2 receive a radio wave from a GPS satellite and detect the current place of the vehicle. This device has an antenna 3 for mobile telephone, a mobile telephone transmitter receiver 4, and a modem 5 for sending and receiving data to and from the DB for information retrieval on a public telephone line. Further, a controller 7 obtains various information from the DB for information retrieval according to an input indication from an input device 6 and displays it on a display device 8. Further, weather information, traffic information, and event information in various places are constructed on the DB for information retrieval, and the contents of the DB are updated sequentially into the latest information, which is sent back. Retrieval conditions are set on the basis of the current place detected by the current place detecting means and the current place information regarding the current place is received from the DB outside the vehicle and displayed to the driver of the vehicle.
