To provide an information processing apparatus which incorporates a TV tuner, capable of automatically carrying out channel scan without the need for a user to perform an operation for channel scan, when the channel scan is needed.
An information processing apparatus includes: a tuner for receiving a television broadcast; a monitoring section which monitors the situation of use of the apparatus and decides whether or not channel scan can be carried out for detecting the channel of the receivable television broadcast; a scan control section which causes the tuner to carry out channel scan in a case where the monitoring section decides that the channel scan is to be carried out; and a display section for displaying the video image of the television broadcast.
