A personal computer 1 includes a function of controlling operating functions (video recording, reproduction operation, and video recording reservation operation) by a remote control picture provided from the video recorder 2 via a network 300. The personal computer 1 transmits a request of checking the operating state of the video recorder 2 via the network 300. Upon the receipt of the request for checking the operating state, the MPU 105 of the video recorder 2 transmits an instruction signal denoting the operating state of the video recorder 2 to the personal computer 1. The personal computer 1 displays the remote control picture corresponding to the operating state of the video recorder 2.
