A network 100 is constituted by connecting an STB 102, a VTR 103, a DVD player 104, a monitor device 105, and a personal computer 106 through an IEEEE1394 bus 101. At the time of operating the STB 102 and the VTR 103 or the like through the monitor device 105, the UI information stored in the relevant device is transmitted through the bus 101 to the monitor device 105, and a user interface picture is displayed on the screen. In this case, each device is provided with the multi-pattern UI information, and an operator can preliminarily set the UI information to be used. Also, the operator can update or add the UI information owned by each device by obtaining the UI information through the Internet by using, for example, the personal computer 106. Also, the UI information transmitted from each device is used as it is, or worked and used according to the instruction of the operator at the monitor device 105 side.
