PURPOSE: To facilitate pointing minute areas on the display screen of a CRT by detecting the moving speed of a pointing device and controlling the moving speed of a cursor on a basis of this detected speed.
CONSTITUTION: Horizontal-direction pulses X1 and X2 and vertical-direction pulses Y1 and Y2 are outputted from a mouse A. A mouse interface (I/F) B detects extents of movement in the X direction and the Y direction of the mouse. An X-direction speed detecting part D counts pulses X1 from the mouse A for a certain time to detect the moving speed in the X direction. A Y- direction speed detecting part E counts pulses Y1 from the mouse A for a certain time to detect the moving speed in the Y direction. A cursor display control part C transmits a cursor display position to a CRT display control part G on a basis of extents of movement in X and Y moving directions from the mouse I/F B and the mouse moving speed from the mouse moving speed detecting part F.
