This information providing system is provided with portable equipment 102 carried with a user for retrieving a physical concept (such as 'Azeria' (name of place for breakfast) or corner on third floor) from a logical concept (place of breakfast or public bathroom) selectively inputted for showing the destination, transmitting the physical concept to fixed equipment 101 installed at a branch point in a hotel or the like, receiving and displaying the direction to go from the fixed equipment 101 and the fixed equipment 101 for receiving the physical concept from the portable equipment 102, retrieving the direction toward the physical concept and transmitting that direction to the portable equipment 102. Further, the information providing system is provided with a corresponding memory controller for reloading the corresponding relation of the logical concept and the physical concept stored in the portable equipment 102.
