Abstract:

To realize an information recording medium capable of performing the high-density recording of a pitch smaller than that of a wavelength of light and to provide a method for recording and reading information.

In the information recording medium on which information is recorded by energy beams or magnetic fields such as a laser beam and an electron ray, and the method for recording and reading the information, a bubble which can move in the direction of a recording track without irradiation of at least a kind of energy beam such as an air bubble, a liquid bubble and a magnetic bubble, is created. The irradiation or the application of the energy beam or the magnetic field to a recording medium in which the size of a bubble becomes large by the irradiation of an energy beam or a magnetic field for reading, is performed while moving the position of the energy beam or the magnetic field on the recording medium. Recording is performed by producing or expanding bubbles and the bubbles are stored by reducing the size of the bubbles after the irradiation or application of the energy beam or the magnetic field. The presence and the position of the bubble are detected and read by expanding the bubble in the place where the irradiation or the application of the energy beam or the magnetic field for reading is performed.
