PURPOSE: To obtain an information recording medium capable of performing initialization, recording and erasure and imparting stable recorded information by forming a recording layer from a pseudo ternary alloy mainly consisting of GeSe2, GeTe and Sb2Te3.
CONSTITUTION: A substrate 1 is formed from a material such as polyolefin and a protective layer 3, a recording layer 2, a protective layer 4 and a protective layer 5 are formed thereon in this order. The recording layer 2 is mainly constituted of a pseudo ternary alloy mainly consisting of GeSe2, GeTe and Sb2Te3 and suitably formed by a vapor deposition method or a sputtering method. The pseudo ternary alloy of GeSe2, GeTe and Sb2Te3 has such a characteristic that it easily becomes amorphous and has high crystallization speed. Therefore, by forming the recording layer 2 from this alloy, initialization, recording and erasure can be accelerated. Further, crystallization temp. is relatively high and an amorphous state is stable at room temp.
