PURPOSE: To retrieve information even if the code of a name to be retrieved is not known and to retrieve the target name without the need of the investigation of the code for retrieving information.
CONSTITUTION: When the code of a name or a name is inputted from an information terminal equipment 1, and it is transmitted to a computer center 13 through a bidirectional line 12, the computer center 13 requests the content of an inquiry name to an external storage device 14. The computer center 13 transmits again data which is read from the external storage device 14 to the terminal equipment 11 through the bidirectional line 12. When the terminal 11 receives data, it displays the retreival data on a screen. A user can set a sorting order in the order of alphabets or Japanese syllabary in the information terminal equipment 11. When the name to be viewed is inputted for the retrieval of information and retrieval is executed, the name is sorted in the sorting order which is set and it is retrieved. Then, retrieved data can be displayed.
