To simply and efficiently exchange information between devices by allowing transmission information to include a hierarchy of data format, a device which receives transmission data to evaluate the hierarchy of the data format and data to decidide a format to be received at that time.
A network 341 connects devices such as a printer 342, a personal computer 343 and a scanner 344, and each device is provided with a processor 346, has a capability that is necessary for jet sending processing and interfaces with the network 341 through a connecting means 345. Here, information to be transmitted includes a hierarchy of data format, a device which receives data to be transmitted evaluates the hierarchy of data format and decides a format which is received by the data. This makes it possible to accomplish information transmission that is abundant and efficient through a generic instruction.
