To provide an IR clinical thermometer which is capable of more exactly measuring the temperature of the eardrum and has excellent reliability.
This clinical thermometer is so constituted that measurement can be performed only when a probe is sufficiently inserted into the external acoustic meatus. Whether the probe is sufficiently inserted into the external acoustic meatus or not is decided in accordance with the detected temperature. Judgment is made that the probe is inserted into the external acoustic meatus when the detected temperature shifts into the prescribed range from outside the prescribed range and is thereafter kept in this range for the prescribed time. A report to permit the measurement is made to a user when the insertion state into the external acoustic meatus is good.
