To smooth the starting operation of infrared communication by facilitating identifying the location of an external infrared device.
In a cellular telephone, first, an image pickup section having sensitivity for an optical wavelength region including an infrared region is turned on (S01), and a small region including a target external infrared device is picked up. The result of picking up is subjected to image processing (S02), and a location detecting section detects a region having an infrared light amount not less than a prescribed value on the basis of image data obtained by the image processing, thereby deciding whether or not an external infrared device is present (S03). If the external infrared device is present, it is decided whether or not the external infrared device is the target external infrared device which outputs an infrared ray at a predetermined blinking pattern (S04). Here, when it is decided that the target external infrared device is present, a location information presenting section presents the location information of the target external infrared device to a user (S05).
