Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of paddy field weed from the catchment area soil by adding activated carbon of a specific form together with a dispersing agent to the paddy water giving a decrement effect of the light transmission of the paddy water.
SOLUTION: The powdery activated carbon is dispersed in water together with the dispersing agent. The activated carbon having the average particle size less than 20μm is preferred as the powdery activated carbon. The containing amount of the powdery activated carbon is 1 to 40wt.% based on the total weight. The dispersing agent used is polyvinylpyrrolidone, starch, derivatives of starch, caramel, sodium-carboxymethylcellulose, etc. The containing amount of the dispersing agent is 1 to 40wt.% based on the total weight. This paddy field weed growth inhibiting agent comprising the powdery activated carbon and the dispersing agent is free from the trouble about safety and health and capable of manifesting its effect for a long time stably by repeated addition. The agent is low in cost an practicable.
