Abstract:

To inhibit metal corrosion in an aqueous system.

A method for inhibiting corrosion of a metal component contacting with the aqueous system includes a process of adding an effective amount of one or more polymers into the system, wherein the polymer contains: (1) at least one repetitive unit selected among a functionalized imide component expressed by the formula Ia, a functionalized amide component expressed by formula Ib, and a combination of the formulae Ia and Ib: (2) at least one unsaturated ethylenic monomer component selected among maleic anhydride, itaconic acid anhydride, cyclohex-4-enyl tetrahydro phthalic acid anhydride, and a monomer expressed by the formula II: CH(R5)=C(R6)(R7): and (3) optionally one or more terminal groups selected from among a fragment of an initiator, a fragment of a chain transfer agent, a fragment of solvent, and the combinations thereof.
