To obtain the subject inhibitor capable of effectively curing autoimmune diseases, e.g. I type diabetes and chronic arthrorheumatism, by containing a specific dihydroxynaphthoquinone compound as the active ingredient.
This inhibitor to inhibit synthesis of heat shock protein having a molecular weight of 57 to 68,000 dalton contains, as the active ingredient, a dihydoxynaphthoquinone compound shown by formula I [Ra is shown by formula II (Rb is H, an alkyl, OH, guanidino, imidazolyl or phenyl, or shown by formulae III or IV, or the like; and Rc and Rd are each independently H or an amino protective group, or Rb and Rc are joined together to form trimethylene or the like and Rd is H or an amino protective group), or H]. It is preferable that the dihydoxynaphthoquinone compound shown by formula I is obtained by extraction from a gromwell root. It is also preferable the objective inhibitor contains 0.01 to 99wt.% of the compound shown by formula I. It is administered orally or parenterally at a daily rate of 1mg to 10g per adult in one to four portions.
