PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve resistance to water and bleeding, and, especially for a pigment-based ink for use in a continuous flow system, to maintain or improve the loading stability while improving resistance to water and bleeding, by incorporating, in an aqueous carrier medium, a colorant and an emulsion polymer additive stabilized with a structural polymer.
SOLUTION: This ink composition comprises (a) 70 to 99.8wt.%, based on the total ink composition, aqueous carrier medium which is a mixture of water and one or more of water-soluble organic solvents, preferably, a mixture of water and a polyhydric alcohol, (b) 0.05 to 8wt.%, based on the total ink composition, colorant which is a pigment having a particle diameter of 0.005 to 5 microns or a disperse dye which is insoluble in component (a), (c) 0.1 to 8wt.%, based on the total ink composition, polymeric dispersant which is a structured polymer or a branched polymer, the structural polymer being a random polymer, a block copolymer or the like, and 0.01 to 20wt.%, based on the total solids of the ink composition of (d), emulsion polymer additive stabilized with (e) a structural polymer stabilizer.
