PURPOSE: To provide the titled compsn. which has excellent discharge stability and can form clear and fine pattern, consisting of an acid dye and a medium and having a pH within a specified range.

CONSTITUTION: 0.1W15wt% acid dye (e.g. C.I. Acid Yellow 17) and optionally additives such as dispersant, surfactant, viscosity modifier, resistivity modifier, anti-foaming agent, penetrant, mildewproofing agent, pH adjustor, etc. are dissolved in a medium composed of water alone or water and a water-soluble high-boiling org. solvent (e.g. ethylene glycol) to obtain an ink compsn. for ink jet recording, which has a viscosity of 50cP or below and a pH of 4W10 at 25°C.
