This ink composition comprises a colorant, water and a compound of the general formula (I): R-(EO)n-(PO)m-M (R is an alkoxy group containing an acetylene linkage in the molecular chain; EO is an ethyleneoxy group; PO is a propyleneoxy group; n and m are each the number of recurring units, representing the average number in the whole system; EO and PO mean each existent in the molecule but it does not matter as for their order; M is a terminal group bound to the end oxygen atom of EO or PO).
