Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an ink composition which is particularly suitable for ther mal ink jet printing processes and has a low viscosity and quick-drying proper ties by incorporating therein an aqueous liquid vehicle, a colorant, and a phos phate ester.
CONSTITUTION: The ink composition suitable for ink jet printing processes and exhibiting low viscosities and quick-drying properties comprises (A) 85-95.5 wt.% (based on the composition, % hereunder), preferably 90-99% of an aqueous vehicle, for example, a 100:0-30:70, preferably (97:3)-(50:50) mixture of water and a water-miscible organic liquid, (B) 1-10% of a dye or pigment (e.g. carbon black) as a colorant, and (C) 0.09-1.5%, preferably 0.18-0.5% of a phosphate ester of the formula (R1 to R3 are each an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, preferably of 1-12C), and optionally 0-15%, preferably 0.01-8% of a surfactant or wetting agent, 0-10%, preferably 0.01-5% of a polymer stabilizer (e.g. sodium salt of alkyl ether phosphate) and other additives.
