An ink-less period of time during printing is set by an ink-less time setting means 34, and the feeding of ink to an ink reservoir section 3 is performed. In this case, a viscosity-indicating value indicating the viscosity of the ink which is fed to the ink reservoir section 3 is obtained by a viscosity- obtaining means 31. Then, the ink-less time setting means 34 inputs the viscosity- indicating value obtained by the viscosity-obtaining means 31. Then, the ink-less time during printing is set in an empty bottle-detecting means 22 in such a manner that the ink-less time during printing may become shorter as the viscosity-indicating value becomes smaller.
