PURPOSE: To obtain in ink jet print head generating large ink drops of uniform size and interval at high frequency and high speed.
CONSTITUTION: The print head 10 has an array of heating elements 36 and a compression chamber 25 near each heating element. Each compression chamber has an orifice 32 for ejecting ink drops and it is filled with ink from an ink reservoir 15 through an ink supply line near a heating element. A dynamic valving effect is generated by configuring a protrusion 44 around the edge of the compression chamber. As a heating element is energized, a vapor bubble 46 of ink grows rapidly to produce dynamic valving action in the ink supply line thus preventing a pressure leak through the ink supply line. As the heating element is deenergized, the bubble collapses and a fast lateral pullback motion of ink is generated near the channel inlet.
