Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder arranged to detect the ink end state of an ink cartridge accurately.
SOLUTION: Ink is supplied from an ink cartridge 9 to a subtank 7 carried on a carriage through an ink supply tube 10. A float member 31 fixed with a permanent magnet 32 is disposed in the subtank 7 and an ink supply valve 26 is controlled to close by the outputs from Hall elements 33a, 33b when the subtank 7 is substantially filled with ink. If outputs indicating full state of the subtank 7 are not delivered from the Hall elements 33a, 33b upon elapsing of a specified time after starting ink supply from the subtank 7, a decision is made that the ink cartridge 9 is in ink end state.
