To provide an ink jet recording apparatus which can prevent a scorching from piling to a heater peripheral edge part.
A spare discharge operation is carried out when the number of dots discharged from nozzles becomes not smaller than a predetermined value. The number of heaters driven simultaneously at this time is set to be smaller than the number when recording is carried out, and a higher voltage than a voltage applied at the recording operation is applied to the heaters 110. Heat conduction to electrodes 111 and, a protecting film layer formed to surfaces of resistors and the like when the heaters 110 heat is reduced and, bubbles are generated in a short time to an entire area including a peripheral edge part. A scorching 120 is prevented from piling to the peripheral edge part of the heater 110.
