To effectively reduce the amt. of ink discarded at a time of restoring processing and certainly eliminate the clogging of ink nozzles.
This ink jet recording apparatus has a recording head 3 provided with a plurality of ink nozzles 1 and the ink chamber 2 communicating with the ink nozzles 1 and an ink supply passage 5 supplying the ink in an ink cartridge 4 to the recording head 3 and is constituted so as to emit ink to recording paper from the ink nozzles 1 to record an image. In this case, the ink chamber 2 provided to the recording head 3 is divided into a plurality of mutually independent ink chambers 2a-2c and an ink supply means 10 pressurizing the ink in the ink cartridge 4 to individually supply ink to the respective independent ink chambers 2a-2c is provided to the ink supply passage 5.
