The image signal to be inputted to the vibration generating means 2 is a burst wave and it is preferable to change the number of the waves forming the burst wave corresponding to the degree of the gradation of the image signal. A diameter of the fly-ejected ink drop 9 can be varied in accordance with the number of waves, thereby achieving the gradation representation.
