To obtain an ink-jet recording liquid containing a specific pigment, giving a color image having excellent light fastness and color tone for the good color reproduction and useful especially as an ink-jet recording liquid for magenta color.
This recording liquid contains 0.1-25wt.%, especially 0.5-10wt.% (based on the recording liquid) of a compound expressed by formula [R1 and R2 are each H, an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; R3 is an atom or as substituent; X is a group of formula CR4R5 (R4 and R5 are each R1), a group of formula NR6 (R6 is R1), S or O; Z is an atomic group necessary for forming a nitrogen-containing 5-membered heterocyclic group which may form a condensed ring with other ring; at least one carboxyl or sulfo group is present in R1 to R6 or Z] {e.g. 1-[4,5-dicyano-1-(2-carboxyethyl)imidazol-2-yl]azo-4- diethylamino-2-methylbenzene].
