PURPOSE: To obtain an ink jet recording sheet excellent in feed properties at the time of printing under low temp. and low humidity conditions or high temp. and high humidity conditions and improved in ink absorbability and sharpness by mainly using non-spherical cationic colloidal silica and specific synthetic hectorite in the compsn. of an ink receiving layer and adding them to the ink receiving layer in specific amts.
CONSTITUTION: In an ink jet recording sheet obtained by applying an ink receiving layer to a support, the compsn. of the ink receiving layer mainly consists of non-spherical cationic colloidal silica and synthetic hectorite. Synthetic hectorite has an aspect ratio of 20-40 and the primary particle thereof has a crystal three-layered structure having an extremely fine disc-shaped particle form and belongs to unlimited layer expansion type trioctahedral having an expansion lattice. This synthetic hectorite has a structure represented by formula I or II and is added to the ink receiving layer in an amt. of 0.1-3.0μm. The ink jet recording sheet has a surface resistivity value of 1×109-9.9×1013Ω under environmental conditions of 10°C20XRH-35°C.70%RH.
