PURPOSE: To stably feed an ink sheet without requiring a complicated structure.
CONSTITUTION: A CPU 20 controls the driving of a grid motor 6 so that recording paper 9 can be fed at constant speed in such a state that an ink sheet 8 and the recording paper 9 are brought to a pressure contact state by a thermal head 3 and a platen 7. The CPU 20 drives an ink motor 1 by arbitrarily set voltage Vi1 and measures the value Vg1 of the current flowing to the grid motor 6 at this time. The CPU 20 calculates the optimum driving voltage Vir of the ink motor l on the basis of the measured current value Vg1 so as to generate predetermined tension in the ink sheet at the time of printing and the ink motor 1 is driven by the voltage Vir. By this constitution, since the characteristic of a printing drive system is detected by measuring the value Vg of the current flowing to the grid motor, the printing drive system can be controlled by simple constitution.
