To provide a method for supplying ink to a printing press which minimizes ink loss and need not recover residual ink or recovers the residual ink in a short time and at the same time, is almost free from contaminants.
A pair of weir members 7 provided on the contact part between an ink transfer roll 3 and a squeeze roll 4 are adjusted in position to almost coincide with both end positions of a sheet S, and an ink storage part 8 is formed on the contact part between the ink transfer roll 3 and the squeeze roll 4 between the opposite parts of the weir members 7. Ink is supplied to the ink storage part 8 from an ink supply unit 30 provided on the ink storage part 8 to begin the printing. The amount of ink to be supplied to the ink storage part 8 is set to be such an amount of ink required for printing sheets S worth a single lot with a small amount of ink left unused after the end of printing. Thus the residual ink need not be recovered or time required for recovering the residual ink is shortened. Further, it is arranged so that the ink loss is quantitatively reduced and the device is prevented from becoming contaminated.
