The recording unit 1 comprises a head frame 11 movable in the direction approaching the carrying face of a sheet or receding therefrom while holding a full line head, and a cap frame 12 movable in the direction substantially perpendicular to the moving direction of the head frame 11 while holding a means for capping the head, integrally with a frame 13. The frame 13 is supported rotatably, on one end part 13a side thereof, by a shaft 14 so that the recording unit 1 can oscillate entirely in the direction approaching the carrying face of the sheet or receding therefrom.
