When an image is recorded in a multipass system, a clear ink droplet is ejected so as to overlap a color ink droplet ejected on a recording medium. At this time, the clear ink droplet which has a larger size than that of the color ink droplet is ejected so that the color ink is coated by the clear ink. Thus, irregularity of an image caused by ejected color ink droplet can be made smoother and generation of gloss banding can be prevented.
