To prevent leakage of ink via the air communication opening of an ink tank and also detect that in which ink overflows to exceed a tank capacity in an inkjet recording apparatus.
When ink overflows from a buffer tank 8 and a sub tank 10, the overflowed ink is discharged from the air communication openings 19a and 19b of the respective tanks via air communication channels 34 and 35 connected to the first block 26a of a first waste ink storage unit 26 to the first block of the first waste ink storage unit. By the above-described configuration, ink leakage when ink overflow occurs can be prevented. Further, when ink overflows from the buffer tank or the like, the overflowed ink flows in an overflow tank 32 connected to the tank via the first block of the first waste ink storage unit and a first overflow tube 33. Thus, the ink leakage from the buffer tank or the like is detected by a float sensor 36 in the overflow tank.
