To provide an inner force sense applying type input device which is provided with a lock means which inhibits the rotation of a knob and is excellent in operability when canceling the lock of the knob.

When a knob 1 rotates to a predetermined rotation angle α and the predetermined rotation angle α is detected by a rotary encoder 2, an electromagnetic brake 3 is controlled by a controller 6 to inhibit the rotation of the knob 1. In the state where the knob 1 is locked by the electromagnetic brake 3, when an operation force is applied to the knob 1 and the rotation direction of the operation force is detected by a distortion gauge 5, the controller 6 determines whether or not the rotation direction of the operation force is the direction indicated by an arrow A increasing the rotation angle of the knob 1. When it is determined that the rotation direction is not the direction indicated by the arrow A (is the direction indicated by an arrow B), the lock of the knob 1 is made to be canceled.
