Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance a sealing property, by making an inner ring of a shape memory alloy and fitting the ring in the ring groove of a piston. CONSTITUTION:An inner ring 16 is interposed between a compression ring 14 and the inner side of a ring groove 12 provided in a piston 10 along the circumference thereof. The inner ring 16 is made of a shape memory alloy so that the compression ring 14 is kept in tight contact with the inside surface of a cylinder by an appropriate elastic force even if the compression ring is worn, because the stress of the shape memory alloy hardly changes even if the stress acting to the alloy changes so that the strain varies.
