To provide an inorganic fiber sheet for which rock wool is used as a main material, while a thermosetting resin binder is not used, and which has a high tensile strength and hardly causes a fray of fibers, and a manufacturing method thereof.
An inorganic fiber core material is prepared at least from the rock wool, glass fibers and a fibrous binder oriented irregularly in a mixed state, and the fibers of the material are connected together by the intertwinement of the fibers and the fibrous binder. The present inorganic fiber sheet has a skin material made of pliable fibers which is laminated on the surface of the core material by the intertwinement of the fibers and the fibrous binder. In the present manufacturing method of the inorganic fiber sheet, the skin material made of pliable fibers is joined by needling to the surface of the inorganic fiber mat having at least the rock wool, the glass fibers and the fibrous binder oriented irregularly in the mixed state, and then the sheet is subjected to hot press molding at the temperature of the melting point of the fibrous binder or above.
