To provide an inorganic oxide by which the particle growth of a carried metal (e.g., rhodium) is sufficiently suppressed, a catalyst carrier for purifying exhaust comprising such inorganic oxide, and a catalyst for purifying exhaust using it.
The inorganic oxide is in the form of particles and contains an aluminum oxide, a metal oxide not forming a composite oxide with such aluminum oxide, and an additional element comprising at least either a rare earth element and an alkaline earth element, wherein the proportion (in terms of the amount of the oxide) of the additional element contained is 1.5 to 5.6 mol.% with relation to the total amount of the additional element, the aluminum, and the above metal oxide, 80% or more of primary particles of the inorganic oxide has a particle size of 100 nm or less, and at least a part of primary particles have a surface concentrated region where the proportion of the additional element contained is locally increased in such surface layer part.
