To provide a new input device and a new information processing system and further to provide the input device and the information processing system which can use an imaging device effectively.
A game system 10 includes a game device 12 and a controller 22, and an attachment 36 is attached to the controller 22. The controller 22 picks up an image containing infrared rays outputted from markers 340m and 340n disposed on a monitor 34, through a half mirror (360f) built in the attachment 36. Besides, the controller 22 picks up an image containing infrared rays from a pen input device 38 which are reflected on the half mirror (360f), through the medium of a touch panel (360b). The controller 22 functions as the input device which inputs coordinates directly, on the former occasion; while the controller 22 functions as a pen tablet, on the latter occasion. Thus, the controller having the imaging device can be used as the input device inputting the coordinates directly and as the pen tablet.
