PURPOSE: To pemit a document display area to be widened as much as possible without reducing efficiency at the time of inputting a character by handwriting.

CONSTITUTION: When the handwritten character is inputted to an input frame 11 so as to be character-recognized, a boundary line 5 is displayed in the input frame 1, the upper side of the boundary line 5 is adopted as the display area of the recognition character and the lower side is as the function input frame. When a styler pen is touched to the upper area again, the boundary line 5 is erased and a whole returns to the handwritten character input frame 1. When the styler pen is touched to the lower side of the boundary line 5, the function input frame is not required to be provided at the outside of the input frame 1 since configuration is the one for executing the succeeding candidate display of the recognition character so that the input are of the handwritten character is made to be narrow and the document area which is not shown in a figure can be widened. Besides, the input frame which is displayed at first has a large size so that the input efficiency of the handwritten character is not deteriorated.
