Abstract:

To provide an inscription reading device capable of certainly reading a latent image of an article to be read.

When the inscription reading device reads a coin A, of a plurality of illuminants 9, only illuminant 9 belong to a partial lighting illuminant portion G1 is switched on first. Then, a part of the coin A surface corresponding to the partial lighting illuminant portion G1 is lighted up, and a CCD camera 6 picks up an image of the lighted-up part, thereby creating a partial image of the coin A surface. Next, the illuminants 9 in partial lighting illuminant portions G2, G3 are switched on in turn, thereby creating corresponding partial images of the coin surface A. Each partial image of the coin A surface is composed to create the whole image of the coin A surface. Therefore, the whole image of the coin A surface wherein a latent image clearly appears can be obtained.
