Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a sheath that has a thinner wall, does not kink, and that is impermeable to X-ray. CONSTITUTION: Spiral metal coil formed by flat wires inside sheath 10 is used. A thin plastic cover 2 is applied between the turns of the metal coil and over the same. This cover is a heat-contractible tube or is provided by die-molding or extrusion molding plastic over the thin spiral metal coil. An adapter through which a catheter is installed is provided to the near end 16 of the sheath. The adapter is composed of the plastic to be connected onto the metal coil and the plastic cover of the metal coil. Distal end 14 of the sheath is combined with a metal portion that is impermeable to X-ray, and its extended end 27 has a soft plastic end piece thereon.
