PURPOSE: To stabilize furnace conditions by disposing specifically shaped electrodes in the descening direction of charging raw materials when the raw materials having different electric resistance are charged into a shaft furnace thereby detecting the thicknesses of the respective charging raw materials in the furnace and adequately adjusting the distribution of the charging raw materials.
CONSTITUTION: The raw materials such as ore and coke having the different values of the electric resistance are charged into the shaft furnace such as blast furnace and the distribution thereof in the furnace is adequately adjusted to stabilize the charge descending and furnace conditions. One or more pieces of electric resistance detecting electrodes 1a, 1b are disposed in the descending direction of the charging raw materials (ore, coke, etc.) in order to normalize the raw material distribution in the furnace by exactly measuring the layer thickness of the charging raw materials in the shaft furnace. The length L of such electrodes is made 0.5W2 times the average grain size of the coke having the small electric resistance among the charging raw materials and the size (d) thereof in the direction orthogonal with the descending direction of the charging raw materials is made 0.15W4 times the average grain size of the charging raw materials. The exact detection of the thickneseses of the coke layer 4 and the ore layer 5 by utilizing the electric resistance value of the raw materials is executed by such electrodes and the raw material charging method is adjusted by knowing the distribution condition of the respective raw materials, by which the furnace conditions are stabilized.
