This measuring instrument is equipped with horizontal tables 1A to 1D, capable of severally thereon mounting each of the front and rear/right and left tires of an automobile which are the measuring objects; vibration exciters 2A to 2D for severally upward/downward moving the respective tables 1A to 1D along their vertical directions; sliders 3A to 3D for allowing the respective tables 1A to 1D to slide forward/backward and leftward/rightward, along horizontal directions with respect to the respective vibration exciters 2A to 2D; load cells 4A to 4D for separately measuring upward/downward loads, forward/backward loads, and leftward/rightward loads respectively acting on the respective tables 1A to 1D; displacement meters 5A to 5D respectively provided on the respective vibration exciters 2A to 2D for measuring displacements of the respective tables 1A to 1D; and a controller 6, including an arithmetic unit 7. The arithmetic unit 7 calculates the mass characteristics, based on the outputs from the respective load cells 4A to 4D and from the respective displacement meters 5A to 5D.
