Title:
INSTRUMENT AND METHOD FOR MEASURING SURFACE HARDNESS OF SOIL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3877389
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument and method for measuring surface hardness of soil by which the surface hardness of soil in a field can be measured quickly and easily for adjusting the hardness of the soil suitably to raise crops.
SOLUTION: The frame 1 of a device which is softly placed on the surface of soft soil is provided with a conical detecting section 2 the penetrating depth of which varies depending upon the surface hardness of the soil, a shaft 3 which is fixed to the top of the section 2 and extended upward, a holding section 5 which always fixes the shaft 3, but releases the shaft 3 at measuring time, and a displaying section 6 which displays the moving amount of the shaft 3. When the device is used, the shaft 3 is fixed so that the front end of the detecting section 2 may be maintained at a height at which the front end comes into contact with the surface of the soil to be measured, and then, the detecting section 2 is made to penetrate to the interior of the soil by naturally dropping the section 2 by releasing the shaft 3 from the fixed state. The surface hardness of the soil is measured from the penetrating depth of the front end of the detecting section 2 when the shaft 3 is released.
