Title:
INSULTING MATERIAL FOR MOLTEN STEEL SURFACE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3081067
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an insulating material for the surface of molten steel excellent in resistance to air oxidation, without contaminating molten steel and without damaging or eroding a refractory by incorporating CaO, Al2O3, MgO and SiO2 into the material in a specified weight ratio.
CONSTITUTION: SiO2, CaO, Al2O3 and MgO are incorporated into the material, the ratio of the contained CaO to Al2O3 is controlled to 0.5-2, the MgO content is adjusted to 30-60% and the SiO2 content to ≤10% and an insulating material for the surface of molten steel is produced. The surface of molten steel is covered with the material to insulate the molten steel or to prevent its oxidation with air when the molten steel is transferred or refined. As a result, since the SiO2 content of the material is decreased, the reaction of the material with molten steel is prevented. Further, the m.p. of the material is lowered since the CaO/Al2O3 is controlled, and the erosion of a refractory is obviated as the MgO is added.
