Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance fuel economy by advancing a starting time of fuel cut without applying an improper torque shock.
SOLUTION: A lift/operating angle variable mechanism is provided which makes an operating angle and valve lift amount of an intake valve variable. When a deceleration fuel cut condition in which fuel supply is stopped is satisfied (T1), a lift operating angle of the intake valve is immediately reduced toward a minimal value, and the fuel cut is started after a predetermined delay period ΔD3 from a time point T2 in which the lift operating angle is reduced to the minimal value (T3). After a predetermined delay period ΔD4, the lift operating angle is increased toward an idle reference value (T5).
