Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the fuel consumption at the time of starting an engine, and reduce the exhaust quantity of hydrocarbon in an intake air control device for internal combustion engine having an intake air control valve.

CONSTITUTION: An intake air control valve is provided between a surge tank 9 and an injector 4 inside an intake air passage 2 of an engine 1 freely to be opened and closed by an actuator. An electronic control unit(ECU) 41 recognizes the degree of starting condition of the engine 1 on the basis of the detecting signal, which shows the operating condition of a cooling water temperature or the like, at the time of starting the engine 1, and in the case where the ECU recognizes that the engine can be started at a little quantity of air-fuel mixture, the target opening of the intake air control valve is set at a small value so as to control the actuator. In this case, the target injection quantity is set at a small value. Consequently, in the case where the starting condition of the engine 1 is good enough to be started at a relatively little quantity of air-fuel mixture, such a little quantity of air-fuel mixture (a little quantity of intake air and a little quantity of fuel) is led. In this case, excellent startability is secured without generating the lean condition of the air-fuel ratio.
