This intake control device has an intake control valve arranged in an intake passage on the upstream side of an intake valve and opening and closing the intake passage, an actuator for opening and closing the intake control valve, and a control means for controlling operation of the actuator and a valve train so that an area between the intake valve and the intake control valve in the intake passage becomes higher pressure than an exhaust passage of a combustion chamber when overlapping the valve (t0 to t1). Temporary opening operation of the intake valve, that is, boosting operation (t4 to t5) for realizing a state of fully closing the intake control valve and of opening the intake valve is performed. Since the area between the intake valve and the intake control valve in the intake passage becomes higher pressure than the exhaust passage (an exhaust port), the backflow of the residual gas in the overlapping period can be restrained.
